Community Based Tourism at Taisun Village

Taisun village is 3 miles away from Falam Town, Chin State.  The village was founded in the 15th Century. The village is well-known as it is the birthplace of Chin civilization and military leader and chief, Con Bik @ Bo Son Pat, who fought against the invasion of the British. The Taisum Community Based Tourism was initiated with the aim to promote the tourism and conservation while bringing the benefits of tourism for the development of Taisun village. Activities that visitor mostly enjoy at Taisun CBT include trekking, exploring the village, Chin traditional weaving, observing Wine making process, appreciating the natural scenic beauty of the village, visiting the museum, visiting the grave and traditional memorial stone of the late hero Con Bik. This CBT initiative is implemented by the UKAID with the Backyard Friendly Tour operator.

Community Based Tourism at Sor Long Village

Community Based Tourism at Sor Long village, Kanpetlet Township in Chin State was initiated in 2017. As the village is situated at the base of famous ASEAN Heritage Park called Mt. Victoria @ Nat Ma Taung @ Khaw Nuh Sone, visitors can do hiking and trekking in such an eco-friendly environment while enjoying bird watching along the top of the peak and at the top of the peak itself. Visitors can enjoy unique taste of delicious traditional foods and Chin wine plus studying the lifestyle of Chin-tattooed women around the nearby villages. A must study in this area are Chin culture, traditional dances and musical performance of the villagers. The project is funded by UKAID with the Forever Top Travel and Tour Co. Ltd as a friendly tour operator.

Liksawi Village

Liksawi village stands strong on the hilltop line of the confluence of the Phung lawng @ Lemyo River and Kyaw Lawng stream. The villagers speak one of Daai Chin dialects and Christianity is the major religion there. There is no public school in Liksawi village so the students must go and study in Khing Phoung village by walking about 3.220 km. The major livelihood is shifting cultivation and elephant foot yam farming is widely modernized now as the source of better income. The 5.65 km long forest ground with fantastic view can grasp the heart of the visitors

Pim Pih Village

Pim Pih village is located in Tedim Township, Chin State. It is about 15 miles in the north from Khai Kam town, and situated in 3554ft above sea level. The village is famous for the hospitality of the villagers, culture and customs, traditional songs and the scenic beauty of the village. It can be reached from Kalay (Sagaing Division) Pim Pih road. Due to its location at the base of Mount Kennedy, the second highest peak in Chin State, trekking and mountaineering become a must for nature lovers. Then, visitors can observe memorial stone and stone caves plus the historical Siallum fort while climbing down from Mt. Kennedy. Community Based on Tourism is being implemented and more assistance for the village is still needed.

Sai Zang Village and Chieftain House

Sai Zang village was established by Pu Mang Sum in 1506 and only the Sai Zang lives in the village. Sai Zang village is situated in the southern a part of Tedim town, 7 miles far from the town. It is the most ancient village in Tedim Township. The Sai Zang chieftain house is 72ft in length and 30ft in width, built of zinc rooftop, wood with wooden plank in it. Outside the house, there is a door which is 42ft in length and 26ft in width. The house has lasted for nearly a century so it is famous as a long-lasting historic building. The house is the resident of Pu Thawng Za Khup, a representative of Tedim Township who signed an agreement at the historic Panlong conference.

Hriphi Village

Around the year of 1710, five tribes of Chin were led by Pu Hlei Lian to establish Hriphi village. It is 35 miles in the west of Thantlang town, and situated above 5300ft above sea level. It was named “Hriphi” because of the rattan growing near the village. Nowadays, there are more than 813 people from 27 tribes dwelling in the village. Around their village, people can do trekking, hiking, and caving in Mt. Mi-epi Mountain and Leisih cave.

Tikir Village and Tikir Dam

Tikir is a village which is situated above 1600m sea level at Thantlang Township. It is 60 miles far from Hakha, the capital city of Chin State. It takes more than 3 hours from Hakha to reach there by car. A must visit place in the village is Tikir dam which is situated over 1524m above sea level. The dam is surrounded by about 1000 systematically planted Japan Sakura trees. Visitors can enjoy the wildlife through mountaineering on a beautiful Ci Riang mountain, a nearby mountain of Tikir village.

Baung Village

 

Baung village is located in Mindat Township, 25 miles far from Mindat town. It takes one and half hour by car and one hour by motorbike from Mindat to reach there. Visitors can enjoy egg horoscope, traditional weaving, traditional tattooing, bamboo utensils in the village. Additionally, joining traditional dance and music performed with traditional bamboo musical instrument and wooden xylophone becomes one of the attractions of the village. Visitors can try traditional food such as Meh Buh, Etui, Chicken salad, yellow millet, and Chin khaung as well. The village is surrounded with interesting things: Kut M’shi Li lake to cleanse sins and to protect not to harm others because of one’s sin,  Nau Hta Lung stone cave which foretells the funeral to be in the village with the crying sound of a baby, Bawng Sih salt well where animals can drink at full moon and new moon nights only when the salt is produced, a tree with shrine where hunters have to sacrifice when they get prey and calculate egg horoscope, memorial stones of each clan, Lone Yu memorial stones erected on annual Lone Yu festivals, Pho Bu rock cliff where villagers can hear the gong sound only at full moon and new moon nights, and Lun Kheh coastal rocks where beach wild flowers bloom beautifully. Community Based Tourism is to be implemented in this area soon.

Kyardo Village

Kyardo village can be reached via Mindat-Kanpalet road and it is 12 miles far from Mindat town. It takes nearly an hour to arrive there by motorbike. Visitors can see Chin traditional house, memorial stones, rock pillar for gods, and Muing tattooed-ladies in the village. Interestingly, studying the rock pillar of gods and memorial stones becomes one of its attractions.

Siang Sawn village

Siang Sawn village, located in the east of Tedim Township in Falam district of Northern Chin State, is a historical village enriched with traditions and culture. It is situated in 5255ft above sea level so the village has a peaceful and tranquil scene surrounded by pine trees under a cool climate. There are about 90 households with more than 300population in the village. The major livelihoods are agriculture, livestock breeding, and weaving. The meaning of the name “Siang Sawn” is “The Cleanest” so all villagers are actively taking part to make the village cleaner than others. The statues of Chin man and woman, Chin traditional memorial stones, the model monument of the village can grasp the heart of the visitors. Furthermore, visitors are clearly explained about the worship, Chin houses with stone roof, elephant tusk and bones, mollusk and oyster in the village.

Zahau & Hualngo Chief ThangTinLain's Residence

On the way to Rih, Lake Chief Thang Tin Lian’s Residence is situated in Tlau Hmun Village, Falam Township. Chief Thang Tin Lian was born in 1895 and he passed away in May 1947. Chief Thang Tin Lian is the leader of 82 villages. He has four wives and 25 children. His residence was built with 26 feet wide, 66 feet long, and his veranda was 6 feet wide on west side and the ground floor divided with customary house. Thang Tin Lian Residence comprised two bed rooms, Ancestor storage room on the upper floor, and it is divided with customary house inner and outer on the ground floor. His Residence was made of Hual wood. Hual wood is mainly used when chin people built their house traditionally. You can see the chief’s tomb in front of his yard. Furthermore, you can see nature of Salt Lake. In the past, that salt lake is the main ingredient of their daily food for the villager and the village near. It takes 1 hour on foot and 15 minutes by car from Thang Tin Lian Residence. In Tlau Hmun Village, you can visit Chief Thang Tin Lian Residence, see the nature of salt lake, enjoy the village life style, and feel nature of cool weather.
